Should Be Better, But Developer Unresponsive
I bought this with the understanding that it wouldn’t properly monitor the newest AirPort Extreme device due to a lack of SNMP support, but that was fine with me as I don’t use that device. What I didn’t count on, however, was that this app won’t properly identify several Apple devices on my network, including an iPhone 5s and a late 2013 iMac. All in all, the app works fairly well with the older devices (including Windows devices), but newer devices seem to throw it for a loop. Even my AirPort Express isn’t properly identified.
For example, the AirPort Express defaults to using the wrong icon, and the vendor is listed as “unknown.” The late 2013 iMac shows “unknown” for the MAC address and, as a result, I can’t edit the record for the computer. My iPhone 5s and iPad Mini with Retina both show the vendor as “unknown.” Amazingly enough, my BlackBerry Q10 shows up correctly. Go figure.
Lastly, the app doesn’t seem to remember window size or position correctly.
All of that would be ok (assuming updates were on the way) except that I have attempted to contact the developer via e-mail and via Twitter, and as of yet (several days later) I have not received any response or acknowledgement. Because the app was last updated in May, and because the developer doesn’t seem terribly interested in following-up with my support requests, I can only conclude that this app is no longer actively developed.
So, in short: I would steer clear of this app and look for something with better support from the developer.
