iNet Network Scanner App Reviews

Great network discovery app for Mac users!!

This is one of the more useful apps I’ve found. I was a little skeptical before buying it but because I really needed to see what devices were connected to my network, I took the chance and bought/installed it and was pleasantly surprised. For the most part, I run a Mac network at home with 2 Airport Extreme’s and several LAN connections as well. This is a very flexible and functional app that allows you to scan your network and collect specific connections based on IP address, shows MAC address and even presents an icon if there is one available but also allows you to use your own icons for items it doesn’t have. Overall, I have about 40 devices connected to my network from iPhones, iMac’s, AppleTV’s, printers, phones and satellite equipment - its now all visible. Great app, in my opinion, well worth the $7.00 USD. *** Gap as of 16-Nov-2014 => Airport Extreme Gen 6 base stations don’t appear to be fully recognized by iNet. I can access the Network Traffic monitoring app in iNet for my 4th Gen AEBS and pull stats off of it but not for the Gen 6. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update. I give it 4 out of 5 for this reason because this Airport has been out for more than a year and this shouldn’t be affected.

Misleading

I want my money back. The screenshots on the their webpage says Supports ALL Apple Routers. I notice that they’ve changed the screenshots here which now says Supports MOST Apple routers. Mine of course isn’t supported, so I find nothing special about this. I can’t even see who/what is connected to my guest network. Everything this can show me I can already see with other tools. I want my money back. How do I make that happen?

Can’t explore my wireless network

I read some of the negative comments about recent airport devices not being supported due something that Apple did. I foolishly assumed that my non Apple router and AP would be supported since several other Apps do so without a problem. WRONG - this App supports ONLY Apple wireless devices! I just wasted 8 Dollars. I usually don’t plug other Apps, but WiFi Scanner is a great example of what and should and can be done. For the record, I have no affliation with that App’s authors.

Great application

I use it for mapping my network and see what IP adress all of my units have. I have used it almost every day and I love it, couldn’t be without it.

This does NOT work with newer Aiport/Airport Time Capsules

I purchased this software to monitor network traffic in my small business. It installed fine, and will find the clients connected to our network. Unfortunately, due to SNMP settings which can not be changed on newer Airport and Airport Time Capsule devices, iNet is useless for monitoring network traffic and performance. Basically… it will tell you the IP address and MAC address of what’s connected. That’s it. I too feel like I wasted my money.

Quality purchase

I bought this software because the built-in Airport Utility would only allow me to see devices connected wirelessly and I had just “hardwired” an ethernet connection for an old Windows PC to my Airport Extreme network. Anyhow, this utility pinpointed not only the IP address, but also the device name so there was no confusion over which device was the new (old) windows machine. Anyhow, I was able to get connceted and do what I need to do. Thanks for some good software guys!

Disappointing Functionality and Organization

BACKGROUND: I have purchased the iPod, iPad, and now the Mac version of this software. I run a network with 6 subnets, 5 wireless access points, and 3 servers running linux. PRO’s: * It’s really handy to be able to scan another subnet from my workstation instead of running over to the access point with my iPod. * It keeps machines information cached so the historical data from previous scans can be reviewed. * The Bonjour scanner is useful for discovering services on the net and is well organized. CON’s: * This app lacks a port scan feature and fails to detect MAC addresses like it should. * All information about a specific device is not accesible through the detail listing for that device. For example: If I perform a scan and click on a device with the IP 172.16.12.154, the software will list the IP address, Host visibility, and online status. To view a list of Bonjour services for that device, the user must change to another screen and sift through another list of hosts to find that information. The device cannot be ping’d or a port scan performed by the user. * The software appears to get its information from the server instead of the devices themselves. I had some machines come up on a scan that haven’t been connected to the net a year before I bought the app. These machines did, however, have entries in the DHCP & DNS servers. * This app lacks the functionality and is organized very differently from its iOS versions.

Not as advertised . . .

I bought this app with high hopes but was very disappointed when it did not work as advertised on the app store. Two of the five screen shots show network graphs & traffic from Apple Airport devices with only a very small text disclaimer that the feature doesnt work with the newer ac devices. I feel there should be a more prominent disclaimer at the beginning of the description. If there was, I probably wouldnt have bought it.

Nice features, small room for improvement

I just moved from a Ubiquiti Unifi Access Point to an Apple Time Capsule. I was really missing the ability to view the wireless client list, and assign custom names to the clients that I had with the Unifi, so I was looking for an app that gave me similar functionality on the Mac. Found several references to this app online, so thought I’d try it out. For $10, it’s not a bad app. Allows me to do exactly what I wanted, which was to view all connected clients and give them custom names. The icon set is nice as well, however the ability to add custom icons would be really nice. Things such as Belkin light switches and Nest thermostats really have no corresponding icons in the provided icon sets. Also, I was really disappointed to find out that some of the features of this particular app do NOT work with newer Time Capsule models. I was looking forward to, based on the provided screenshots, the ability to view network traffic graphs and signal strength of connected devices. There is a small blurb in the description stating which models are supported which I did not see at first glance. Screenshots say “Supports most Apple Routers”, so I assumed the newest ones would work fine. Other than these minor issues, the app still does what I wanted.

Slick UI, but not always functional

I mostly purchased this to document my LAN and to be able to wake up different machines using the Wake On Lan feature. The documentation aspect is great to be able to see and keep track of machine addresses and which services they’re running. However, I find the WOL, remote sleep and restart functions are somewhat flaky. And the LAN scan feature does not always seem to update the device list with current information, leaving some older machines that have been removed still in the device list.

iNet only supports Apple Airport routers

So I didn’t realise that this only supports Apple Airport routers (Time Capsule, Airport Extreme or Express). I also didn’t realise that the warning that they Do mention above about SNMP means that I can’t get much info out of my newer Airport Extreme… So, yeah, I’m going to go and look for a different tool that I can use for my other router now. Still, at $10 I’m not that bothered as I get a bunch of the stuff that I was looking for.

SNMP Monitoring for None Apple Devices

I really like the application for network flow/traffic monitoring of my two apple airport express devices. Unfortunately, Apple droped snmp support on the Time Capsule, which is a key element of my network. I also have two smart switches netgear 108gt that I would like to monitor network flow / traffic as well. The application does not support none apple switches. This would be a GREAT Enhancement to the application.

Worked great until latest update.

Ive used this program for ages now. its wonderful, featured, and incredibly handy if you work in the IT and custom installation world, or if you want to know about your network! The best app for troubleshooting I have found. However, after the most recent update, it wont even load for me. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled several times, to the same result. a real drag as there isnt another app out there that compares. Im still running 10.8.3 because every time i try to update my OS, it hangs at 90%. which is the price i pay for using a macbook pro that is older than 18 months i suppose. please fix this if you can, i use this app on a daily basis in my work. and beware before you update if youre running older software versions.
